Chief Officers

The IAFC has the operational and leadership resources you need to succeed as a chief officer and prepare yourself for future advancement.

EFO Section
For nearly three decades, the Executive Fire Officer Program from the National Fire Academy has developed leaders throughout the world that have created safer communities and a more sustainable fire service for our future. The IAFC Executive Fire Officers (EFO) Section supports executive fire officers who continue to create a sustainable leadership culture for our future fire service leaders.

Fire Service Executive Development Institute
The Fire Service Executive Development Institute (FSEDI) is a program developed by the IAFC and funded by a grant from Motorola Solutions Foundation. New and aspiring chiefs are provided with the tools they need to have a successful and productive tenure. Learn more.

Chief Officer (CHIEF) Leadership Symposium
The Chief Officer Leadership Symposium program consists of two levels, one for those new to the role and the other for more veteran officers. Attendees learn from instructors with years of fire and emergency service and life experience in areas such as community risk reduction, human resources, operations, and health and safety. CHIEF learning objectives support JPRs outlined in NFPA 1021 (Fire Officer III and IV) and the IAFC Self-Development Dimensions.
