The International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) in partnership with the Volunteer and Combination Officers Section (VCOS) and through a FEMA funded SAFER grant is holding a "Developing Inclusive Teams Workshop" pre-con at VCOS IAFC's Symposium in the Sun in Clearwater, Florida on November 8-9.
There are 15 spots available in the class. This class is open to anyone attending Symposium in the Sun, however travel can only be reimbursed for participants from volunteer and combination departments.
The course will equip members of the fire service with knowledge and skills to support diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in the workforce. The course is interactive, placing the participant in thought-provoking situations through role play, group and individual exercises, and class discussion. It includes several scenarios that are constructed to mimic real world situations, allowing participants to simulate how they would handle issues effectively as they emerge in the real world. The course is designed to allow participants to reflect on their own perceptions and beliefs about DEI topics, explore individual diversity, and experience the impact their language and behavior can have on those around them. Participants will leave the course with a strong foundation in DEI to create and support inclusive environments.
Student travel expenses (airfare, hotel, lyft/uber/taxi, etc.) to and from the course are reimbursable within IAFC guidelines for students from volunteer and combination departments. Once you submit the form and are admitted to the class, you will receive information regarding the travel reimbursement.
