Fairfax, Va. – American International Group, Inc. (AIG) and the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) have announced that AIG member companies will provide funding for a grant program that provides Ready, Set, Go! (RSG) members with resources for community fuels mitigation programs.
The RSG Fuels Mitigation Grants are intended to assist local fire departments in establishing or enhancing their community fuels mitigation programs while educating members of the community about community wildfire readiness and encouraging personal action.
“The IAFC is pleased to partner with AIG to promote preparedness and safety in high-risk wildland fire areas through RSG,” said Chief Rhoda Mae Kerr, IAFC president and chair of the board. “RSG is a great example of how our strategic partners can work collaboratively with local fire departments to enhance public safety through education and awareness in communities across the country.”
“We are pleased to contribute to the continued success of the Ready, Set, Go! Program,” said Deserie Thigpen, Assistant Vice President of Loss Prevention at AIG. “This year marks the 10-year anniversary of AIG’s Wildfire Protection Unit (WPU), which was created to educate clients of AIG Private Client Group on preventive and mitigation tasks that can be performed before a wildfire happens. AIG’s WPU and the Ready, Set, Go! Program share the common goals of proactive loss prevention and emergency preparedness.”
The funding provided by AIG will enhance community fuels mitigation programs by providing equipment and resources for debris disposal to better prepare and protect communities against the threat of wildland fire.
The grants are administered by the IAFC according to an established set of criteria. Requests are made through a formal, peer-reviewed process to ensure effective use of the funds. The RSG! Program works in complementary and collaborative fashion with other wildland fire public education programs to amplify the main message of community wildfire readiness.
RSG was developed by the IAFC with support from the USDA Forest Service, the U.S. Fire Administration, the U.S. Department of the Interior and other FAC Coalition partners. About Ready, Set, Go! (RSG) Program
The Ready, Set, Go! (RSG) Program, managed by the IAFC in partnership with the USDA Forest Service, seeks to develop and improve the dialogue between fire departments and the residents they serve. Launched nationally in March 2011, the program helps fire departments teach individuals who live in high risk wildfire areas – and the wildland-urban interface – how to best prepare themselves and their properties against fire threats.
