The National Fire Fighter Near-Miss Reporting System is a voluntary, confidential, non-punitive and secure reporting system with the goal of improving firefighter safety. By collecting and analyzing information on near-miss events, improvements can be made in command, education, operations and training. Read more on http://www.firefighternearmiss.com.
We encourage all emergency service professionals to submit Near-Miss reports and use the related training tools. As a chief or officer, you can:
- Implement tools and training from fellow departments, like the SOP Spartanburg (SC) Public Safety Department created on how to integrate the Near-Miss system into any department.
- Subscribe to the Report of the Week, a free training tool distributed via email.
- Request a Near-Miss Trainer. For more information, contact Rick Atkins, Program Advisor, ratkins@firefighternearmiss.com or 571-926-3045.
- Search archived Reports of the Weeks for specific training topics.
- Encourage all members of your crew to submit a Near-Miss report.
