Standards of Cover
The Standard of Cover (SOC) process, known as "deployment analysis," is the process of developing written procedures that determine the distribution and concentration of capital and personnel resources of an organization. However, many fire and EMS chiefs still don’t fully understand all of the sequential steps involved in the process.
Have you ever found yourself involved in a conversation about Standards of Cover, while remaining a bit unsure about whether you fully understood each of the components and how they relate to overall deployment? It’s certainly not as simple as "an engine every three miles and a truck every five."
Creating an Integrated Risk Management Plan or Standards of Cover requires that a number of areas be researched, studied, and evaluated. The SOC process is an excellent way to have a conversation with the community and policy makers about how resources relate to outcomes. The SOC helps describe how the investment in stations, apparatus, and personnel provide a better quality of life for the community in terms of lives and property saved. SOC gives the fire chief a way to clearly describe "return on investment" when discussing improved response resource deployment.
The purpose of this webinar is to explain the basic concept of SOC and fully describe the primary components that go into the process, including risk, distribution, concentration and reliability. While the session may include some limited discussion on "how to," we intend to focus on the bigger picture of how the components of SOC relate to each other, why the process makes sense, how to apply it to your situation, and what benefits can be derived from it. Whether or not you are considering accreditation, SOC is the industry standard for verifying the adequacy of your current resource deployment. Here’s your chance to reinforce what you know about SOC or learn even more.
