The current economic conditions are tough on everyone but also offer an opportunity. As a chief officer, you are frequently faced with tough fiscal decisions, and you should expect that to continue into the foreseeable future. Even the most optimistic financial forecasts warn that the economy could remain weak for years to come.
In response to this situation, IAFC President Chief Larry Grorud has formed a task force to provide guidance and assistance on how best to deal with this issue head-on. The IAFC Economic Challenge Task Force represents the assembled wisdom and best practices from experienced fire and EMS chiefs across the nation on how to improve leading fire/EMS departments through these tough times.
The goal is to help fire and EMS chiefs and their departments:
- Understand the most effective strategies—and the common pitfalls—for collaborating with their staff, public officials and others in their community in making tough resource decisions.
- Access and share best practices.
To ensure IAFC members have the tools needed to survive and thrive through the tough financial challenges ahead, the IAFC Economic Challenge Task Force is actively undertaking the following initiatives:
