Responders Helping Responders
As a chief or officer, you face new and evolving emergency response challenges including transportation incidents, use of alternative fuels, illicit labs, and threat of terrorism and weapons of mass destruction. The IAFC remains in the forefront, developing tools and resources for you.
The National Hazardous Materials Fusion Center is a collaborative effort of the IAFC and the U.S. Department of Transportation's Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA).
Mission
To enhance hazmat responder safety and improve decision-making for responses to hazmat incidents.
Go to the National Hazardous Materials Fusion Center Portal (beta version) to learn about the tools and resources available to you.
Incident Reporting System
A secure, web-based portal to serve as a data and information network for hazmat teams; first responders; federal, state, and local agencies; and the private sector.
A one-stop shop for the collection, analysis, and dissemination of information about hazmat response and hazmat topics that enhances first responder safety, tactics, operations, policy and training.
RIST Lessons Learned and Smart Practices
Regional Incident Survey Teams (RIST) respond post-incident to hazmat incidents by invitation of local or state jurisdictions or at the request of PHMSA.
The goal of the RIST initiative is to develop and disseminate the lessons learned ranging from common to unique hazmat incidents and share smart practices from those incidents with the broader hazmat community.
