Hazardous Materials Committee Awards
The IAFC Hazardous Materials Committee has three awards that recognize outstanding contributions in the field of hazardous-materials emergency response, which are presented annually at the International Hazardous Materials Response Conference:
- Chairman’s Award
- Level A Award
- John Eversole Lifetime Achievement Award

The Chairman’s Award
The IAFC Hazmat Committee Chairman’s Award was established in 2007 to recognize an individual or organization that has supported the goals and objectives of the IAFC Hazardous Materials Response Committee and has contributed to the advancement of the fire-service hazardous-materials emergency response. The recipient of this award is selected by the chair of the IAFC Hazardous Materials Committee and is recognized for significant contributions in a behind-the-scenes capacity to support emergency operations or for having helped to advance the capability and professionalism of hazardous-materials emergency response.

Level A Award
The Level A Award bestows the highest level of professional recognition to individuals or organizations that have made significant contributions to the hazardous-materials emergency-response profession. Awarded by the IAFC since 2000, this award has recognized individuals who have provided an exceptional level of leadership, service and commitment to the mission and goals of the hazardous-materials response community. Most award recipients have also made significant contributions to support the mission of the IAFC Hazardous Materials Committee, the Hazardous Materials Response Team Conference or the IAFC’s efforts in the hazardous-materials area.
Nominees should be:
- Held in high esteem by their colleagues and peers
- Recognized for their example in upholding professional standards, mentoring other professionals or contributing to day-to-day excellence within their chosen discipline within the hazardous-materials emergency-response community.

John M. Eversole Lifetime Achievement Award
The John M. Eversole Lifetime Achievement Award was established in 2007 to recognize a living individual who has had an exceptionally distinguished career in the field of hazardous-materials emergency response. It is presented annually to an individual who has distinguished herself or himself throughout her or his career by leadership and outstanding contributions to further and enhance the hazardous-materials emergency-response profession.
Nominees should be:
- Held in high esteem by their colleagues and peers
- Recognized for their example in upholding professional standards, mentoring other professionals or contributing to day-to-day excellence within their chosen discipline within the hazardous-materials emergency-response community.
