1 hr 00 minutes NewInterimCover_No_Text1280x720

Join VCOS board member Chief Al Yancey, Minooka (Illinois) Fire Protection District for this 2 part webinar as he shares information from the Volunteer and Combination Officers Section's report You’re the Fire Chief; Now What? -- Guidance for New & Interim Chiefs. The VCOS report discusses the duties, responsibilities and questions to ask during the first 100-days as the new or interim fire chief.

Chief Yancey will discuss the challenges of transitioning into becoming a new or interim fire chief. He encourages you to download the report before you attend the webinar. The webinar WILL NOT be walking through the report page by page. Chief Yancey will cover the major points of the report and provide information for you to act upon.

If you are a new or interim fire chief, you don’t want to miss this stimulating and informative webinar.

Part 1 of the webinar will be Monday, January 27, 7pm-8pm ET, or Tuesday, January 28, 3pm-4pm ET.

Part 1 will cover the first few steps to be taken by a person who is preparing to take the office of fire chief. We will look at the external hire scenario and the importance of advanced reconnaissance. We will discuss the first day and week priorities and briefly review the “bumpy” transition situations, when you inherit the office when the previous chief abruptly vacates the office.

Part 2 of the webinar will be Monday, February 24, 7pm-8pm ET, or Tuesday, February 25, 2pm-3pm ET.

Part 2 will focus on the first month through sixth month and beginning to build your 100-day play. We will review the importance of SWOT analysis, stakeholders (both internal and external), and establishing SMART goals in the organization. This session will close out by covering resources available form the VCOS and IAFC for chief and chief officers.

One registration will register you for all 4 sessions.
