- Preventing federal taxation of incentives for volunteer firefighters
- Job protection for volunteer firefighters and EMS
- Implementation of the PSOB program
- Tax incentives for retrofitting fire sprinklers

Background
The first session of the 110th Congress convened on January 4, 2007 for its two year term. The House and Senate have set up their committee structures and are conducting hearings and other business.
The president sent the administration’s fiscal year 2008 budget to Congress in February 2007 (see IAFC release covering the budget). Congressional budget committees are determining how much money will go to each of the appropriations subcommittees. In April 2007, appropriators will begin work in earnest. Remember that appropriations bills are annual bills, so the amounts appropriated, and their terms and conditions, are good for only one fiscal year.
