Metro Chiefs Present Awards in San Antonio

During the Metropolitan “Metro” Fire Chiefs Association meeting last week in San Antonio, Texas, IAFC CEO/Executive Director Mark Light was presented with the the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Light, prior to becoming an association executive, was fire chief of the Henrico County (Virginia) Fire Department and deputy fire chief of the Roanoke County (Virginia) Fire and Rescue Department. After serving several years as IAFC's deputy executive director, he was appointed executive director in August 2007, where he has assembled an exemplary staff professionals shepherding the association through an era of unprecedented growth, influence and effectiveness.  Read bio.  

Also during the conference, President’s Awards of Distinction were presented to Chief David Downey, Miami-Dade County (Florida) Fire Rescue and Mr. Ken LaSala, director of government relations and policy.

LaSala has worked at the IAFC since 2005. Prior to that he served for 7 years for Senator John McCain on the Senate Commerce Committee.  

The awards were presented by Chief Otto Drozd III, who was reelected for a second one-year term as Metro Chiefs president.
