Grab your coffee and join the SHS Section Board and guest speakers each month for candid conversations about the topics that matter most to firefighters.
From the latest research to real-world firehouse experiences and lessons learned from close calls, no topic is off the table. We're here to discuss the issues directly impacting firefighter mental and physical well-being.
When?
- The third Thursday of every month, unless otherwise announced
- 11 AM ET/8 AM PT
- Recordings available to view at your leisure
Here’s what to expect:
- Expert insights: Guest speakers will kick things off with their knowledge, current research, and/or stories on the month’s topic.
- Open discussion: Participants can ask questions of the experts or the group and share their experiences in a respectful conversation facilitated by the SHS Section liaison.
- Convenience: Sessions are all hosted on Zoom, run approximately 90 minutes, and are recorded. The unedited recordings are available afterward for anyone to watch.
- Different perspectives: Participants range in rank from firefighters to department chiefs, with several shifts joining together from a training room or equivalent each month. Attendees are not required to be members of the SHS Section or the IAFC, these sessions are open to everyone who wants to join.
How to join:
- Pre-registration is required for each session. A new registration form will be published ahead of each session.
- Registration is session-specific. Signing up for one does not register you for future sessions.
- Sessions are announced on IAFC and SHS social media, via member eblasts, and right here on this page.
You do not need to be a member of the SHS Section to participate in these sessions. Everyone is welcome.
Please note: any disrespectful comments or behavior directed at the guest speakers, SHS Section board members, staff liaison, or other participants will not be tolerated. Anyone found to be acting in a disrespectful manner will be removed from that session and banned from all future Coffee with SHS sessions.
