The Leadership Development Certification Series (LDCS) is offered through a partnership between Columbia Southern University (CSU) and the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC).
Designed specifically for fire service leaders, the program combines CSU's academic excellence with the real-world expertise of IAFC members to prepare professionals for the challenges of today's fire service.
A New Standard in Fire Service Leadership
The LDCS represents a significant advancement in fire service education by establishing competency-based minimum requirements for leadership development. Together, the IAFC and CSU are raising the standard for professional training and education across the fire service.
Flexible Learning Options
Courses are offered:
- 100% online
- On-site at conferences
- Through IAFC division and state/regional delivery programs
- Or through a combination of online and in-person instruction
Participants complete an online examination before progressing through the program.

Program Structure
Each Leadership Development Certification Series includes three courses.
- Courses may be taken individually for CEU credit.
- Completing all three courses earns the LDCS certification.
- A completed certification series is equivalent to three academic credit hours.
