FEMA Announces Awards for FY 2024 AFG, SAFER, and FP&S Grants

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced today (September 26) that it announced all of its awards for the Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 Assistance to Firefighters Grant; Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER); and Fire Prevention and Safety (FP&S) grants. Fire departments are receiving announcements of their awards through FEMA GO. Please be sure to check the conditions for receiving grant funds.

Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Open Applications for Rural Health Transformation funds

Last week, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) opened their notice of funding opportunity (NOFO) for the Rural Health Transformation Program. The program is designed to provide grants to state governments to support rural communities in improving healthcare access, quality, and outcomes by transforming healthcare delivery. CMS will distribute up to $50 billion to states. Community paramedicine and other mobile integrated healthcare services are likely eligible for these funds. States can apply for funds from this program. Fire and EMS departments seeking to develop or expand community paramedicine programs should talk to their state leaders for inclusion in their application for funding. Applications to the NOFO close on November 5, 2025.

IAFC Launches Grassroots Campaign to Incentivize Retrofitting Residential High-Rise Sprinkler Systems

The IAFC launched a grassroots push to support the High-Rise Fire Sprinkler Incentive Act (H.R.173/S.504) currently under consideration in Congress. The bill would change the depreciation schedule for retrofitting fire sprinklers into residential high-rise buildings to incentivize their installation. The IAFC seeks more cosponsors and increased awareness of the bill in Congress. Members can visit the IAFC Action Center to contact their representatives and senators on this bill, and other legislative priorities of the IAFC.
