Congress Passes Legislation to Provide Benefits to Help Survivors of Public Safety Cancer Deaths
On December 18, President Trump signed the Fiscal Year 2026 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA; S.1071). Included in the NDAA was the Honoring Our Fallen Heroes Act, a bill that extends federal Public Safety Officer Benefits to first responders who die from occupational cancers caused by job-related exposures.
This Honoring Our Fallen Heroes Act was endorsed by the IAFC, and we worked with the IAFF, the NFFF, and other public safety organizations to pass the bill. The Government Relations & Policy Department released a blog post [Link: Congress Passes Legislation to Help Survivors of Public Safety Cancer Deaths] with a full breakdown on the Honoring Our Fallen Heroes Act and eligibility requirements.
