Please Continue to Ask Your Members of Congress to Fund the USFA and the AFG and SAFER Grant Program
Thank you to everyone who met with their Congressional delegations in conjunction with this year’s National Fire and Emergency Services Dinner. It was great to see so many fire chiefs and fire service leaders on Capitol Hill asking Congress to reopen the National Fire Academy and fund the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG), Fire Prevention & Safety Grant (FP&S), and SAFER grant programs.
Senator John Thune (R-SD), the Senate Majority Leader, would like to see a deal to reopen the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) next week. So, please keep up the pressure on your Senators and Representatives by asking them to fund DHS fire service programs.
Pro Codes Act Introduced in the Senate
On Thursday, Senators John Cornyn (R-TX) and Chris Coons (D-DE) introduced the PRO Codes Act (S. 4145). The bill seeks to protect the copyright of codes and standards developed by independent standard development organizations when they are incorporated by reference in law, while also ensuring free public access online to the codes. The bill was referred to the Committee on the Judiciary for further consideration. The IAFC endorsed this bill.
