The International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) is looking for input and feedback as we work to develop a national campaign to recruit volunteer firefighters. This national recruitment campaign is being funded by a SAFER Grant with the goal of raising awareness about the current shortage of volunteer firefighters and increasing the number of volunteer firefighters in communities across the country.
Approximately 65% of fire and EMS departments in the U.S. are staffed by volunteers, and maintaining minimum staffing requirements has become increasingly challenging. If this trend continues, response time and public safety will become a serious national crisis. Be part of the solution by sharing your perspective and encouraging other people to participate.
