Wildfire Risk to Communities

The Wildfire Risk to Communities, a USDA Forest Service tool, provides free, interactive maps, charts, and data for community leaders (planners, officials, fire managers) to understand, visualize, and reduce their wildfire risk using nationwide data on likelihood, exposure, and intensity to guide mitigation strategies like home hardening and fuel treatments.

What it does:

  • Assesses Risk: Offers data on wildfire likelihood, intensity (flame length), and exposure of homes and communities.
  • Visualizes Risk: Uses interactive maps and charts to show risk at different geographic levels (neighborhoods, zip codes, counties).
  • Provides Resources: Offers learning materials and actionable steps for risk reduction, including zoning, home hardening, and defensible space guidance.
