The IAFF has released its Energy Hazard Guide

The IAFF has released its Energy Hazard Guide, a first-of-its-kind online resource developed to help members safely navigate emergency incidents involving modern energy systems.

With utility vaults, solar panels, electric vehicles, battery storage systems, and high-voltage infrastructure becoming more common on the fireground, this interactive guide provides response considerations, hazard indicators, PPE recommendations, and videos to support informed and safer decision-making.

Designed by fire fighters for fire fighters, the guide is accessible through the IAFF Online Learning Center and includes quick-reference sections for nearly every energy hazard members may face – whether in residential settings or large-scale commercial systems.

This tool reflects the IAFF’s commitment to keeping members protected as energy technologies evolve and is intended to support both frontline response and ongoing training.

To access the guide, log in to the IAFF Online Learning Center and register for the course. Add the Energy Hazard Guide to your cart and complete the free checkout process. Once registered, you’ll receive an email confirmation, and the guide will appear in your Dashboard under Course Overview for easy access anytime.
