FEMA Announces Release of AFG, FP&S, SAFER, and Homeland Security Grant Awards
On September 23, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced its intent to award grants funded under the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program and the homeland security grant programs. Specifically, FEMA announced its intent to award:
- More than $580 million through the Urban Areas Security Initiative.
- Nearly $400 million through the State Homeland Security Program.
- More than $335 million through the Emergency Management Grant Program.
In addition, FEMA announced its intent to award $648 million that Congress funded for the Assistance to Firefighters Grant program; the Fire Prevention and Safety Grant program; and the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER).
It is recommended that IAFC members check the FEMA Go system for the status of their applications.
CFSI Award Application Period is Open
The Congressional Fire Services Institute opened the application period for the following awards:
- Mason Lankford Fire Service Leadership Award
- Senator Paul S. Sarbanes Fire Service Safety Leadership Award
- Dr. Anne W. Phillips Award For Leadership In Fire Safety Education
- Excellence In Fire Service-Based EMS Awardv
Applications are due on October 16, 2026. The awards will be presented that the National Fire & Emergency Services Dinner on February 18, 2027.
