Fairfax, Va. - The IAFC today applauded introduction of Volunteer Responder Incentive Protection Act (VRIPA) (H.R. 1550) in the U.S. House of Representatives.
The legislation would provide a permanent reauthorization of a portion of the tax code which allows volunteers to receive property-tax based incentives and up to $600 in other incentives without being considered taxable income. The IAFC has been advocating for this legislation since the expiration of the original VRIPA in 2010.
The IAFC believes this bill will help fire departments provide more comprehensive recruitment and retention benefits for volunteer fire departments.
The bill was introduced March 15 by Representatives Dave Reichert (R-Wash.) and John Larson (D-Conn.).
