IAFC Foundation and Emergent BioSolutions Announce Hazmat Scholarship Recipients

Fairfax, Va. – The International Association of Fire Chiefs Foundation (IAFCF) today announced that 10 first responders and safety officers have been selected to receive 2016 hazmat conference scholarship awards.  

These scholarships are made possible through a grant from Emergent BioSolutions and provide each recipient with full conference registration and a stipend to attend the International Hazardous Materials Response Teams Conference, June 16-19 in Baltimore. The recipients are:

  • Patricia Binion, Lieutenant, King County Fire District #50 - Sky Komish (WA)
  • Timothy Carson, Safety Officer, Brighton (NY) Volunteer Fire Company
  • Joseph Craig, Lieutenant, Conroe (TX) Fire Department
  • Derek Hirons, Firefighter/Paramedic, Town of Holden (MA) Fire Department
  • Corey Johnson, Firefighter/Paramedic, Williston (ND) Fire Department
  • Matthew Miller, Engineer, Ruckersville (VA) Volunteer Fire Department
  • Kregg Phillips, Lieutenant, Austin (TX) Fire Department
  • Rudy Ruiz, Deputy Fire Chief, Perrysburg (OH) Fire Division
  • Mac Thomas, Captain, Rock Hill (SC) Fire Department
  • Dana Tissue, Lieutenant, Central Pierce (WA) Fire/Rescue Department

“The Foundation congratulates each of the recipients and thanks the many responders who applied. We are pleased to be able to award these scholarships and hope to be able to grant more in the future,” said Tony Campisi, IAFC Foundation president.  “We also thank Emergent BioSolutions for making these scholarships possible and look forward to partnering with them again.”

Since 1983, the IAFC’s International Hazardous Materials Response Teams Conference has been providing first responders with immediate, practical and valuable training designed to ensure they can successfully meet the demands of hazmat response in today's challenging environment.
