Ready, Set, Go! Program Wins 2016 ASAE Power of A Silver Award

Fairfax, Va. - The International Association of Fire Chief’s Ready, Set, Go! Program recently received the 2016 Power of A Silver Award for The Power to Enrich Lives by the American Society of Association Executives.

The RSG! Program was recognized for helping to educate and empower residents through the trusted voice of their local fire service to be leaders in their communities by being an active and responsible participant in the fire-adapted initiative. The program encourages community coalitions to be formed and spreads the message of being Ready with preparedness understanding, being Set with situational awareness when fire threatens, and to Go, acting early when a fire starts.

“I’m pleased that the Ready, Set, Go! Program has won national recognition from the American Society of Association Executives. Kudos for the members, departments, staff and leadership that made this possible,” said Fire Chief Rhoda Mae Kerr, IAFC president and chair of the board.

ASAE’s Power of A Awards highlight the association community’s valuable contributions to society on the local, national and global level. They honor the outstanding accomplishments of associations and industry professionals in the areas of enriching lives, creating a competitive workforce, preparing society for the future, driving innovation and making a better world. This year, ASAE received 147 total entries-a record number- with 30 receiving Gold and 55 earning Silver Awards.

The Ready, Set, Go! Program is funded by the USDA Forest Service to promote improved dialogue on wildland-fire preparedness between fire and emergency service organizations and the residents they serve. The program provides the guidance and tools, without charge, to any member organization regardless of size or resource ability. These tools help departments communicate with residents about what to expect in a wildland fire and how to encourage community members to take personal responsibility in the wildland-fire preparedness effort.

The program also works to help communities become fire-adapted by raising situational awareness and realistic expectations about firefighting resources during an event. For more information, visit the RSG! Program website.
