New Orleans Fire Department Recovery and Reconstitution Process

Following the devastating impacts of Hurricane Katrina, the City of New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) initiated a strategic planning process to recover and reconstitute fire and emergency services delivery to the city. Assistance was sought from the Department of Homeland Security’s U.S. Fire Administration (USFA), and this funding enabled a planning process to unfold whereby a series of goals and objectives have been established. USFA designed and facilitated the planning process in collaboration with NOFD. Additional expertise was added through a cooperative agreement established between USFA and the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC).
