The International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) Company Officers Section is pleased to announce the launch of a new award program to celebrate and empower members of the fire service who occupy mid-level leadership roles within their departments. The Company Officer of the Year award will recognize one company officer, either volunteer or career, for their leadership, innovation, professional development, integrity, public service, and contributions to the fire service.
The person selected will receive registration and travel expenses and be presented with an award at Fire-Rescue International 2025 in Orlando, Florida, this August.
Award Criteria
Individual must be a company officer, which is defined as one who directly manages firefighters and their equipment. This individual reports to either a shift chief, a battalion chief, or other executive or administrative chief officers of the organization. It is typical for these individuals to hold the rank of Lieutenant or Captain.
- Can be a member of either a volunteer or career department.
- Must be active at the time of nomination.
The selection criteria for this award will emphasize leadership, innovation, professional development, integrity, service to the public, and contributions to the fire service as a whole.
All of a nominee's fire service activities and accomplishments will be considered. Special emphasis will be placed on the period from 2022 through 2024. A nominee's command role at a major emergency incident, while relevant, will not be enough to place that individual into contention for the award.
