From Training to Statewide Action: How IAFC’s Ready, Set, Go! Program Helped Shape Idaho’s Wildfire Evacuation Messaging

by Josue Gomez | 05/12/2026
The International Association of Fire Chiefs’ (IAFC) Ready, Set, Go! (RSG!) Program continues to drive meaningful progress in wildfire preparedness and evacuation coordination across the country. In a major milestone for wildfire public safety, the State of Idaho has officially adopted “Ready, Set, Go!” as the statewide standard for wildfire evacuation messaging, creating a unified approach to evacuation communication across all jurisdictions.

This statewide adoption reflects years of collaboration, training, and outreach supported through IAFC Wildfire Programs, particularly the IAFC’s Evacuation Management for Law, Fire, and EM Leaders course. The two-day command-level course brings together fire service, law enforcement, and emergency management leaders to strengthen interagency coordination, evacuation decision-making, and public messaging during fast-moving wildfire incidents.

Idaho leaders and partner agencies engaged with IAFC’s Ready, Set, Go! framework and evacuation training concepts as part of broader efforts to improve wildfire response coordination and public communication. The training reinforced the importance of consistent evacuation terminology, clear public action steps, and unified messaging among agencies — all key principles reflected in Idaho’s statewide implementation of the Ready, Set, Go! model.

Under the standardized Ready, Set, Go! framework:

Ready — Prepare for possible evacuation

Set — Be prepared to leave at a moment’s notice

Go — Evacuate immediately when directed by the county sheriff

Idaho officials noted that the standardized messaging system is intended to reduce confusion, improve public understanding, and strengthen coordination between local, state, and interagency partners during wildfire emergencies.

As wildfire threats continue to grow nationwide, the IAFC Ready, Set, Go! Program remains committed to helping communities build resilient evacuation systems through training, partnerships, public education, and operational coordination. Idaho’s adoption of the Ready, Set, Go! framework demonstrates how collaborative wildfire preparedness initiatives can evolve from training environments into statewide policy and operational practice.
