Plainfield Fire Protection District
Plainfield, Illinois

Demonstrating the continued partnership between the Volunteer and Combination Officers Section (VCOS) of the IAFC and ISO, another highly successful seminar was held on Saturday, February 23 in Plainfield Ill. with 82 fire service members in attendance. They were there to listen and learn about the revisions to the Fire Suppression Rating Schedule (FSRS) and the Public Protection Classification (PPC). ISO implemented these revisions in December 2012 both to modernize and to enhance its FSRS and to restructure property rating rules to recognize the revised PPC structure.

“ISO undertook a comprehensive effort to review the content of the FSRS with the goal of identifying those portions of the current grading evaluation that warranted necessary revision,” according to Robert Andrews, vice president of ISO’s Community Hazard Mitigation, who is responsible for countrywide implementation of the new PPC program. As a result, ISO is now using an updated schedule to review the fire suppression capabilities of individual communities.

As a service to its members and others in the fire service community, VCOS, in partnership with ISO, is hosting a series of one-day seminars “YOU & ISO,” in order to enlighten you on the changes you can expect when ISO next visits your community. We are on target to host one seminar per month for the next 12 months.
We began this ambitious schedule in California in December 2012 at the California Emergency Management Agency, with the support of Chief Kim Zagaris, Fire & Rescue Programs, and Chief Jim Wilson, VCOS board member, from the Mariposa County Fire Department. This second seminar in Illinois was hosted by the Plainfield Fire Protection District with the support of Chief John D. Eichelberger, Deputy Chief David Riddle and their great fire district staff.

Our next seminar will be in The Villages, Florida on March 9 hosted by Chief Mike Tucker.

We encourage you to visit our website at www.vcos.org to obtain registration forms. Future locations and dates for You & ISO, what every fire department should know and understand about ISO in your community, will be posted there as well.
