The Hazmat Fusion Center includes case studies on historical incidents that offer responders an opportunity to learn from the past and apply those lessons learned to future incidents for a more successful outcome.

Case studies include:

• Train Derailment in Miamisburg, OH (Lessons Learned): Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Company (B&O) freight train derailment (1986)
• Rail Tank Car Incident in Kingman, AZ (Lessons Learned): While contents were being off-loaded, a leaking Droxol Propane storage tank connection sparks ignition (1973)
• Cargo Ship Disaster in Texas City (Lessons Learned): As longshoremen descended into the hold to load the remainder of a consignment of ammonium nitrate fertilizer, fire between a ship's hull and the cargo holds is discovered (1947)
